CAN THE LEFT AND RIGHT SIDES OF THE BRAIN COLLABORATE?

Join us for an afternoon of communal creativity! Local artist Dana McClure will lead a series of collage experiments designed to bridge the gap between the logical, structured left brain and the intuitive, playful right. Through a mix of drawing, painting, and cut-and-paste activities, we’ll explore how our individual perceptions can be endlessly unique while still sharing common creative impulses. This workshop is an opportunity to step beyond goal-oriented thinking and embrace the freedom of subconsciously led exploration. With an emphasis on side-by-side making and discovery through process, each participant will leave with a ready-to-frame original mixed-media art piece. Please note: class is limited to 12 participants and a minimum of 6 participants is required. Registration closes on Monday March 5th.

Dana McClure is an artist based in Olivebridge, NY, where she works out of her studio. Her practice spans a diverse range of media, including collage, painting, photography, and printmaking. Over the years, Dana has art directed print, motion, and interactive projects for a variety of commercial, non-profit, and cultural clients around the globe. She spent more than a decade teaching 2D Design and Time-Based Media at Parsons and New York University, working with both undergraduate and graduate students. Dana also directed and co-produced a five-year documentary, Odd Ones Out, which won a Telly Award in 2008 and is distributed internationally.

In addition to her art career, Dana co-owns Ravenwood, a small flower and produce farm, with her husband, chef Chris Lanier. The farm serves as a key source of inspiration for Dana’s artwork, with much of it focused on floral abstraction. She incorporates homegrown blooms into her compositions—whether as photographs, paintings, collages, or pressed petals. Her work is often displayed in Ravenwood's seasonal barn space, which fosters creative exchange between the worlds of farming, food, and art.
